COOL Club

Aug. 15th. COOL Club (3^rd-5^th grades) will meet at the church from 4:30-6:00 on Sunday, August 15^th for Bible study, games, crafts, and snacks. We will meet in the Youth Room. All 3^rd-5^th graders welcome! Questions may be directed to Holly Shipley. We are looking for a couple of parents to organize a COOL Club event for September for either bowling or roller skating. Please let Holly know if you would like to coordinate this event.

Lutheran Youth Rock-In for Hunger

AUG. 6th. The Lutheran Youth Rock-In For Hunger will be held Friday, August 6^th from 8:30 p.m.-9:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Join with other Lutheran youth from Lexington as we “rock” for a cause. We will be literally “rocking” in rocking chairs as well as dancing (for those who want to) to Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. Cost will be $15 per person ($5 will cover costs for pizza that night and the rest will go to combat hunger—funds will go to the 2011 Kids Against Hunger program. A Taste for Grace, July 31st

This fundraiser for Grace Orphanage and Theophile School in Haiti features wine and bourbon tasting, appetizers, live entertainment and a silent auction. 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the orphanage and school. The dormitory of the orphanage was destroyed during the earthquake on January 12^th. For more information about Grace Orphanage and Theophile School, visit graceorphanagehaiti.org

Green Team Event

The Green Team will be helping out at the Nelson Avenue Community Garden on July 17 from 10:00 AM until noon. The garden is located at 324 Nelson Avenue off of East Third Street and Midland Avenue. People of all ages are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to get out in nature and serve our community! The Nelson Avenue Garden provides food for the residents of the surrounding neighborhood, and is a special rehabilitation project of troubled youth in the Drug Court program. The garden provides these youth an outlet for their energy and an opportunity to become a part of the larger community. The Parish Life Committee invites everyone to a night at the Lexington Legends on Saturday, July 24^th at 7:05pm. The Legends will take on the Savannah Sand Gnats with fireworks following the game. There will be reserved group seating on the 3^rd base (shady, just like we like it) side of the park. Tickets will be on sale after services through July 11th. Ticket price is $6.00 a piece and must be paid for at the time of reservation. Please join us for what has become an enjoyable event for all who attend.

Kids Hope

One child, one hour is the heart of KIDS HOPE USA. One caring adult mentoring an at-risk child one hour every week.
Because when kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow, and succeed.

Kids Hope USA

Faith Lutheran is a member of KIDS HOPE USA, working in partnership with Cassidy Elementary School.
We provide adult mentors who each meet with one student once a week during school hours at Cassidy.

Currently, Faith supplies 18 mentors. For each student-mentor pair, a prayer partner is matched from within our congregation.

BUILD

The purpose of BUILD is to have a self sustaining, interracial, pro-active organization, rooted in religious congregations and capable of powerfully addressing community issues in the greater Lexington area.

BUILD is an affiliate of the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) Center, which is committed to building powerful, diverse, congregation-based, and democratically run organizations capable of winning justice on issues facing the community.
Since 1982, DART has built and strengthened over 20 local affiliate organizations in six states.
