Faith Formation for Fall of 2010
Sunday School Rally Day for all ages Sept. 12th at 9:45.
Children’s Sunday School
Children’s Sunday School is for children ages 3 years through 5th grade, using the Spark curriculum. Spark is designed to “spark” an interest in the Bible and uses the lessons from each Sunday’s worship. A Sunday School opening is held each Sunday in the Choir Room. Parents may pick up their 3 year old-2nd grader in their class at 10:45, 2nd-8th graders will meet their parents in the narthex near the coat rack at 10:45. Flyers are posted in the narthex and in the stairwells indicating where each class and age group meets. A nursery is offered for children 2 years and younger.
Youth Sunday School (Middle School & Senior High)
Middle School youth meet at the Faith House and will also be using Spark material. The Sr. Highers will meet on the first Sunday of the month for Starbucks Sunday. They will travel with adult leaders to Starbucks for beverages and conversation. On other Sundays, the sr. high students are encouraged to help with the younger classes.
Adult Sunday School
“Christianity 101″ September 12 – Nov. 14
Objective: In a ten-week course to explore Christian doctrine, scripture, worship, and ethics from a Lutheran perspective. The life and ministry of Faith Lutheran Church will also be examined in this course. Pastor Luckey teaches this course in Fellowship Hall at 9:45 a.m. This class is designed for new members, however the class is open to all who would like to learn more about Lutheran core beliefs. Please fill out a visitor’s card in the pew rack in front of you to indicate your interest.
“Parenting Your Teenager” is a 6 week class being offered on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 led by Holly Shipley in her office. Class will convene for an introduction on Sept. 12th (Rally Day) and have their first lesson/discussion on Sunday, Sept. 19th and continue through Sunday, Oct. 17th. Videos and workbooks are included in this course produced by Bluefish Christian media. All parents are welcome—whether your child is currently a teenager or up and coming!
Sunday Sabbatical: Do you need an hour of relaxation? Just want to have a cup of coffee and visit with other church folks during the Sunday School hour? Well, now you don’t have to feel guilty! Feel free to visit with others and enjoy an hour of down time in the narthex each Sunday.
Weekday opportunities
Morning Glory is a weekly class that meets on Tuesday mornings from 11-12:15 at the Faith House. Pastor Luckey will be leading a text study beginning on Sept. 14th.
Book of Faith
“People of Faith” is a nine week study on Tuesday nights from 7:15-8:15 (at the same time Confirmation Classes are held so that parents may participate) led by Jennifer Barricklow in the Library. No preparation is required and each class stands on it’s own for people to be able to drop in throughout the course. The first class will be held on Oct. 19th.
Sophia Groups
“Sophia” means wisdom in Hebrew. Two women’s groups meet monthly for book discussions, conversation, prayer and sometimes a spiritually themed movie! The Daytime Sophia Group generally meets on the third Thursday of the month at 1:00 at a member’s home and the Evening Sophia Group meets on the third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at a member’s home.
