A Menu for Body, Mind & Soul
The Christian Education Committee plans and coordinates learning opportunities for children, youth and adults throughout the year. This menu includes nourishing items for the mind, body and soul as we start a new academic year. Please peruse the menu and see what whets your appetite.
Main Courses
Morning Glory—This is an ongoing Tuesday morning class, led by Pastor Luckey, that meets at the Faith House from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. The class will be discussing the upcoming Sunday’s readings.
Wednesday Night Bible Study—This group will meet on Wednesday nights, hence the name! The group will begin with a study of Isaiah for the fall and move into other books of the Bible throughout the year. Led by Pastor Joan Sorenson at Faith House at 6:30 p.m.
Sophia Studies—Evening and Daytime women’s groups that meet for book discussions. Most books have some theological content and discussions are always lively. See the monthly Messenger and weekly bulletin for meeting times and locations.
Weekday opportunities - Men’s Breakfast Group meets at Perkins on Richmond Road each Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. For more information, contact Richard Heine, 272-3500.

January 8: Dr. J. Richard Bowersox, a geologist for the Kentucky Geological Society, will present on alternate energy sources. This session will provide an introduction to the pros and cons of various alternate energy sources currently being considered by environmentally-minded citizens and leaders.
January 15th: Speaker, Ben Perry from Bluegrass Greenworks will discuss some of the following questions “How environmentally literate are we? How you can help us build one of the best connected, best informed, and most involved “green communities” in the world!”
January 22nd: Speaker–Shayne Wigglesworth: Join Shayne Wigglesworth, the Produce Manager from Good Foods Market and Cafe as she discusses the benefits of buying and eating organic foods; for your body, your community, and the Earth. Healthy conventional alternatives for those with budget restraints will be shared.
January 29th: Speaker– Kelly Anne Beile, MBA: VIP (Value, Inspiration, and Promos) Session with Whole Foods Market: In this session, we will explore how to shop for healthy foods without breaking the bank. Come ready to participate and enjoy some healthy samples from your local Lexington location in the Mall at Lexington Green.

Youth & Children’s Menu
Sunday School—For children ages 3 years-sr. high school. An opening for children ages 3-5th grade is held at 9:45 in the Choir Room. Middle School and Sr. High meet at the Faith House beginning at 9:45 a.m. Children ages 3-5th grade use the Spark Curriculum while Middle Schoolers will be discussing Sunday’s Bible lessons and Sr. Highers will be discussing topics in the news and seeing how “The Simpsons” can speak to their faith and current issues. Sunday School runs from September 11, 2011 to May 20, 2012.
Confirmation—Middle School youth are invited to learn more about their faith through a three year course (10 sessions per year, plus retreat, summer camp, mentoring and service). More information will be sent to all middle school youth. Confirmation meets for 10 week sessions on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. September 27 – December 13, 2011, and January 10 – March 13, 2012.
COOL Club—Children of Our Lord for 3rd-5th graders meets every month. One month is an outing led by parents and the opposite month is a gathering led at the church by Holly Shipley and youth helpers. For current COOL Club activities, click here.
